The list of school administrators from the Teachers Service Commission, which is set to recover erroneous deductions from 1st July 2020 has exposed a rot in the teaching fraternity at large. A glance at it leaves the teachers weary as they wait for their fate on the 1st of July 2020.Some of the wrong data captured were;
- Many schools have no Headmasters, meaning that the person discharging the duties of the missing Headmaster, earns less than the post hence underpaid.
- Schools have more than one Headmasters. The list captured some schools with more than three (3) headmasters and above, some had over four (4) Deputy Headmasters and a number had numerous senior masters beyond the school CBE.
- Primary schools with Many Head teachers and Deputy Head teachers.
- Many schools had no senior masters and senior teachers.
- There were cases of headmasters being in more than one school .Two (2) Headmasters or more Headmasters in one institution including those who have been transferred.
- Many Schools without substantive Headmasters, Deputy Headmasters and Senior masters.
- Principals captured as Chief Headmasters (Chief Principals), were Deputy Headmaster 3 , Deputy Headmaster 2 or even a Principal.
- Chief Headmasters captured in sub county schools. Implying not genuine placement or occupant wrongly placed.
Just like what the Teacher Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia said `we have people who are earning wrong salaries’.
Many are cases of school admins who rose through ranks minus interviews! Hence they have been earning those enhanced packages yet they are ordinary classroom teachers especially schools in town; County Headquarters and those connected.
Whenever it came to promotions this erroneous data made matters complicated. It was difficult to identify genuine teachers to promote leading to stagnation in job groups.
Lack of enough funds for teacher promotion. Wrongly placed teachers earned cash meant for genuine ones.
If the secretariat is genuinely going to clean this list then be sure good things will come out of this exercise.
- There will be room and cash for promotion.
- It will mark the end of stagnation especially School Administrators.
- Those who were discharging administrative duties minus commensurate pay shall now get their dues.
- Many who were captured wrongly and have been enjoying hefty perks shall be surcharged for recovery.
