The Teachers Service Commission has approved the transfer of 14,613 teachers to their home counties, as the agency ended the delocalisation policy.
Only 120 teachers whose requests for transfers did not go through as TSC is yet to get their replacements.
A total of 14,733 teachers from across the country had submitted their applications for transfer to their local counties when TSC opened the window
According to a memo seen by the Star, TSC will continue finding a match for the pending transfers before the remaining requests are approved.
“All teachers and deputy headteachers are reporting on January 23 while school heads are to report on January 16,” the memo reads.
From the statistics,226 school principals, 189 deputy headteachers and 1,948 primary schools headteachers were moved to counties of their choice.
Some 1,316 secondary teachers and 10,934 primary school teachers will be transferred.
The commission clarified that TSC regional heads will oversee transfers within their regions.
Teachers being moved from one region to the other will have their transfers effected by the commission headquarters.
“The purpose of this memo is to seek approval to mail the list of teachers to be transferred within regions and the memo to the regional headquarters,” the memo reads.
This seeks to allow the teachers to shift their workstations within the stipulated time.
According to the memo, 12,019 teachers will be transferred within regions, another 2,594 have inter-regional transfers.
Another memo sent out to regional directors called for the submission of handing/taking over reports of school heads by February 10.
“Ensure that all handing and taking over of school heads is overseen by TSC County Director and MOE,” the memo reads.
The delocalisation policy had sparked uproar and outrage among teachers and politicians with the Kenya Kwanza government vowing to reverse it.
