The government through the Ministry of Education released new guidelines to be observed in schools ahead of imminent reopening following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The new rules were unveiled on Wednesday, September 16th by the CS for Education CS Prof. George Magoha
Food handlers would be expected to wear personal protective equipment (PPEs) including gloves, aprons and face masks to promote best hygiene practices
Here are some of the proposed new school rules
- In institutions where the student population is high, eating would be done in shifts to avoid crowding in the dining hall.
- Food handlers would be expected to wear personal protective equipment (PPEs) including gloves, aprons and face masks to promote best hygiene practices.
- Lunch to be served in class.
- No sharing of food and utensils.
- Staggered break times to limit number using toilets .The gov’t has invited bids for making of more desks in schools.
- Toilets should be disinfected at least three times in a day. This would be done by responsible adults.
- Cleaners to be equipped with PPEs.
- Much learning to take place outside the classrooms with desks arranged in rows facing forward.
- Desks to be disinfected daily.
- No sharing of personal items such as slippers, shoes, clothing and towels.
- Use of double decker beds must meet social distancing guidelines of at least one meter apart
- Co-curricular activities would be affected with no games, drama or assemblies allowed in schools
- No hugging or high five in games and sharing of water bottles is prohibited
CS George Magoha is expected to make a major announcement on the exact date of reopening. The Professor will outline the framework of reopening of schools and all other details.
