Machakos: Several Students Injured in Road Accident

Several Students Injured in Road Accident Along Kikima-Machakos Highway

On Saturday, several students from Mbooni Girls High School were rushed to the hospital following a severe road accident on the Kikima-Machakos Highway. The incident occurred when a bus carrying the students lost control and overturned.

Emergency services responded quickly, with a rescue team dispatched to the scene to assist those trapped inside the wreckage. The injured students were transported to Machakos and Kikima Level 5 hospitals for treatment. The bus was severely damaged, with one side crushed and shards of glass scattered across the highway.

While the exact number of injured students has not yet been confirmed, authorities have reported no fatalities. The accident caused significant traffic congestion along the steep stretch of highway. Local residents also joined in the rescue efforts, helping the injured students.

This accident comes less than two months after a similar incident on the same highway. On May 13, another accident involved high school students traveling in a matatu that lost control and rolled several times at Kwa Mbisu, Nthungoni in Makueni County. The passengers were treated at Mbooni Sub County Hospital, and fortunately, no deaths were reported.

The May accident occurred as students were returning to school after an extended holiday caused by severe flooding in the country. The recurrence of such incidents highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the need for improved measures to protect students during travel.
