Dormitory Fire Leaves School in Ruins

Fire Devastates Dormitory at Kerugoya Boys High School in Suspected Arson Attack
Kerugoya Boys High School is facing significant losses after a fire destroyed one of its dormitories on Saturday evening. The blaze, which began around 8 PM, is believed to be the result of arson, causing panic among students and resulting in a chaotic scramble for safety.
Although there were no reported casualties, the fire destroyed property of unknown value. Prompt action by county firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. John Kiama, head of the County Fire Department, confirmed their swift response but acknowledged that they couldn’t save the property lost in the inferno.

Kirinyaga County Commissioner Daniel Ndege announced that investigations are underway to determine the fire’s cause. “A passer-by alerted us to the incident, and we responded promptly. Thankfully, no casualties were recorded,” he stated. Preliminary findings suggest that some students might have started the fire to disrupt upcoming exams scheduled for Monday.
Commissioner Ndege urged parents and students to remain calm as authorities work to restore normalcy at the school.
This incident mirrors a similar fire in March at Masii Boys High School in Machakos County, where a dormitory fire, starting around 5:30 PM, destroyed two dormitories. No casualties were reported in that incident, but property belonging to students and the school was lost. Firefighters managed to save some property and extinguish the blaze.
As investigations continue, the Kerugoya Boys High School community is left to deal with the aftermath of the devastating fire
