TSC Finalizes July 2024 Salary Increments

The long-awaited final TSC pay rise for teachers, ranging between 7 percent and 9.5 percent of the basic salary, is set to be fully implemented this July, 2024.

This follows the initial installment that was disbursed in August last year. In addition to the salary increment, teachers can also expect improvements in their housing allowances.

In the 2024/25 budget estimates, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) was allocated funds for the implementation of the second phase of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that was signed with the unions last year.

Furthermore, TSC has allocated an additional Sh1 billion in the 2024/25 budget for teachers’ promotions.

This year, the education sector received a substantial budget allocation of Sh364.9 billion, up from Sh316.7 billion in the previous fiscal year.

This significant increase includes provisions for promoting 9,000 primary school teachers and 3,000 secondary school teachers who were not eligible for recent promotions earlier this year.

The salary increment, ranging between 7 percent and 9.5 percent, has already started benefiting teachers since the first installment was disbursed in August last year. This increment has also resulted in improved housing allowances for teachers.

The teachers’ unions secured this deal with TSC as an addendum to the 2021–2025 CBA, which initially lacked a monetary component. These adjustments in job grades and salary scales will be applied to teachers following the increment, marking a significant step forward in enhancing teachers’ remuneration and overall welfare
