Ministry of Education Changes Mid-Term Two Dates for All Schools

Ministry of Education Changes Mid-Term Dates for All Schools

The Ministry of Education on Thursday, June 22, announced the rescheduling of the midterm dates. As per the new directive, students will commence their midterms on Tuesday, June 27. The break will last until Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Initially, the scheduled midterm break for all students in public schools was planned to commence from Thursday, June 29, and conclude on Sunday, July 2.

The change followed a petition by school heads under the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA).

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang urged school managers to take note of the changes.

The Ministry released the school calendar on January 10, 2023, which included essential dates for the entire academic year.

The second term began on May 8, 2023, and will run until August 11, 2023. Students will then break for the holiday on August 12, 2023, for a period of two weeks up to August 27, 2023. The third term is set to commence on August 28, 2023, to October 27, 2023.

Thereafter, the students will break for the third term holiday from October 28, 2023, to January 8, 2024 (a period of ten weeks).

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams will begin on October 30, 2023, and end on November 2, 2023.

On the other hand, high school students will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams on November 3, 2023, until November 24, 2023. The marking of the two national examinations will then commence on November 27, 2023, through to December 15, 2023.
