KNEC Set to pay Invigilators and supervisors
Teachers who provided invigilation services for the 2022 national examination are set to be paid their dues.
The supervisors and monitors of the KNEC; Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will not be paid until September.
According to the Ministry of Education, financial constraints are to blame for the delayed payment of examiners and invigilators contracted to oversee KNEC-administered national tests.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang told the House Education Committee on Tuesday that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has until August to clear the payments.
Kispsang speculated that the 2023–24 fiscal year would include Ksh 1 billion needed to pay more than 40,000 examiners who marked the 2022 examinations.
“We have until August to pay the teachers who marked tests; it is unlikely that any examiner will be paid before the fiscal year 2022–23 ends on June 30”, he added.
The Senate pressed KNEC for an explanation of why it had not paid teachers who had administered, monitored, and marked the 2022 national examinations, Kispsang appeared before the committee.
Chief Executive Officer David Njengere of the KNEC will be questioned by the Senate Education Committee after it was revealed and allegations were made that the organisation had not yet paid the tutors who monitored the 2022 KCSE and KCPE examinations.
Members of the House Education Committee have proposed setting aside money to compensate teachers for their time spent monitoring students as they take tests.
