Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has run into trouble with senators for snubbing their invitation.
The CS for Education skipped a panned meeting with the joint committees on Education and National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations
The Senate Education Committee meeting was scheduled on November 16th 2022.
Machogu didn’t attend instead he wrote an apology letter to the committee and later called Joe Nyutu ; (Senate Education Committee chairman) and explained that he won’t be available for the meeting but he will be represented by his PS.
Nyutu ordered Juan out of the meeting room and ordered that the CS appear in person Tuesday next week.
“The tradition procures and procedures of this House dictate that the CS shall appear before us in person, not junior officers,” Fatuma Dullo (Senate Minority whip) stated.
Senate Minority whip sentiments were backed by senators Johnes Mwaruma (Taita Taveta), Wambua, Mohamed Chute (Marsabit) and minority leader Stewart Madzayo.
The Senate Education Committee had invited the CS to explain the possibility of re-introducing a school feeding programme in arid and semi-arid areas in the wake of ravaging drought and famine across the county.
The statement had been sought by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua whose county is one of the most affected by drought.
