Tension High after TSC Slaps School Heads with Show Cause

The teacher’s employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has slapped several Secondary school principals and primary School head teachers with show cause letters over poor performance in 2021/2022 KCSE and KCPE examinations.

The teacher’s employer wants the school heads to explain and give reasons why their schools have been performing poorly for the last three academic years.

“You are required to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for poor performance in the last three years,” reads a letter to a school in Kuresoi in Nakuru county.

The school heads face may face a number of disciplinary action including demotion or transfer to small remote schools.

“Furnish this office with the measures put in place not later than seven days from the date of this letter,” the letter reads.

“You are required to consolidate data from your regions and submit fifteen days after the release of results for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2021,” noted Lentoijoni in the memo.

The notice caused tension among school heads with underperforming schools.

TSC asked its Regional Directors in March to compile and submit data on school performance in National Examinations for the previous three years in their respective regions as soon as the 2021 KCSE examinations were released.

The information also included KCPE and KCSE results for all public primary and secondary schools.
