Teachers in the country have a reason to smile after it emerged that the Members of Parliament will include their Teacher Professional Development (Tpd) training in the budget estimates.
This will now relieve them off the burden of footing the Ksh 6000 that they would require to pay before being allowed to go through the mandatory training by the different institutions contracted by the government.
National Assembly education committee chair Florence Mutua said the funds will be factored in the general capitation allocated to the ministry.
“The cost will be settled by the Ministry of Education. “The Star newspaper reports. This is a great relief to teachers because they had cried foul that the programme by the government was put to make them pay more expenses yet they had not initiated the whole programme of getting trained.
All Eyes will now be on the Teachers Service Commission which has been given the mandate of ensuring that the teachers undergo the training before the renewal if their official teaching certificates.
The PDT normally caters for all the teachers who have been registered with the Teachers Service Commission whether they are employed by the commission or are yet to be employed.
