Netizens Congratulate Wrong Girl for Clinching 403 Marks

A photo of a little girl, Peris Chebet, has been making rounds on social media with a section of netizens praising her for reportedly clinching 403 marks.

The Blackboard News Team has since established that the little girl is a grade one student who was not a candidate in the 2020 KCPE examinations.

Intergrated Education for Community Empowerment (IECE), a non-governmental organisation, dismissed the allegations saying that its employees had taken the photo in March while in the line of duty.

IECE said Chebet was a pupil at one of its partner schools and was yet to sit for KCPE.

“We have come across different accounts sharing this image with varying false information relating to 2020 KCPE results. Kindly disregard all,” reads an excerpt of its notice.

IECE, in partnership with Malteser International and German Humanitarian Assistance, has been running a Covid-19 response project in Nairobi’s informal settlements.

Chebet went viral on Thursday evening, April 15, after Education CS George Magoha announced the KCPE 2020 results.

In the photo, she was wearing a brown tattered sweater, suggesting that she was from a poor background but had defied all odds to get the good grades.

This touched individuals and organisations who vowed to support the girl.
