11 Primary School Pupils in Custody for Smoking Weed in School

11 Pupils of Kibugu Primary School, in Embu County, were arrested after being found in possession of several rolls of Cannabis sativa inside the school.

The pupils are said to be in Classes 7 and 8. The pupils allegedly confessed to smoking Bhang in the school according to the Embu North Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumu.

The 11 also revealed names of three people whom they claimed had been selling them drugs. Tumu warned that the government would not sit and watch drug peddlers ruin the lives of school-going children in the area.The police officers in the area were given two weeks to arrest the drug peddlers ruining the lives of the young ones.

Nimewapatia wiki mbili washike hao watu, la sivyo chief wenu ataenda nyumbani (I am giving the police officers in this area two weeks to arrest the drug peddlers in this area, failure to which, your Area Chief will be sacked),” said Tumu.

Parents were urged to monitor their children and ensure morality is highly held to ensure they do not go into drug and substance abuse.

In a similar incident ,four students were arrested in Kirinyaga county for allegedly being in possession of bhang in school. 

Kirinyaga East sub-county police commander, Anthony Wanjuu said, “They told us they have been smoking bhang during lunch and break time.” 

On February 18, 2021, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie renewed calls for Parliament to craft a law to legalize the industrial and medicinal use of marijuana. Kiarie said the country can no longer be blind to its economic benefits.
