Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha over his ‘Mjinga’ remarks on Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka.
In a letter of invitation, the EACC wants Magoha to appear at its headquarters on Wednesday, November 18 to record a statement over an incident in which he is accused of insulting the elderly officer.
The CS will appear before EACC officers, David Mutua and Celestine Awiti.
The commission said that it is mandated to probe professor Magoha over breach of code of conduct during his inspection visit to Langa’s Primary School in Uasin Gishu County.
“The Commission pursuant to its constitutional and statutory mandate…is investigating allegations of unethical conduct touching on Cabinet Secretary of Education [Prof George Magoha] regarding an incident that occurred at Langas Primary School, in Eldoret Town, on or about November 6, 2020, during a tour of the school,” EACC stated in the letter.
Magoha has come under heavy criticism after a controversial video in which the CS was seen insulting the County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka went viral.
Mogoha can be seen calling the elderly officer stupid before harshly dismissing him from the meeting.
The probe by the EACC adds to Magoha’s troubles after the Public Service Commission (PSC) stripped him off of his powers to manage the human resource functions of the ministry and delegated the function to his junior Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang.
“The purpose of this general letter is to inform you that in view of the recent incident in the Ministry of Education relating to the role of the Authorized Officer, the Commission has in the meantime withdrawn the delegation of its powers and functions from the Cabinet Secretary, Prof. George A. O. Magoha, CBS and delegated the said powers to the Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr. Richard Belio Kipsang, CBS with immediate effect,”the circular reads in part.
The remorseful CS came out a day after he was stripped of the human resource function to defend himself saying that nobody is perfect.
“I would like to state without any fear of contradiction that in my life, which is not very young and not very old, I have learned that nobody is perfect. If anybody has seen a perfect person, you should tell me that person. What drives me is practicing Christianity,” said Magoha
