A Form Four student was on Friday evening lynched by an angry mob for allegedly hacking his uncle to death in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
Francis Mwaniki, the 20-year-old deceased student attacked his uncle who was in a miraa (khat) plantation within their homestead in Mugambaciura village.
The villagers say that the 20-year-old had been abusing drugs.
That afternoon, it is reported that, the boy appeared disturbed. In unclear circumstances he picked a panga and killed Mr. Samuel Chomba; 45-year-old uncle.
“I tried very hard to help his uncle but he was determined to kill him,” said Peterson Mugambi, one of the friends to the 20-year-old.
According to one of the family members, Mwaniki had previously threatened to kill his uncle accusing him of practicing witchcraft a claim that villagers refute.
“We suspect the boy was using drugs… he kept saying his uncle Samuel Chomba was practicing witchcraft. What does a 20-year-old Form Four student know about witchcraft?” posed Michael Chomba.
Murinduko location chief Joseph Kariuki said police have launched investigations into the incident.
