FORM 4 STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 AT MUUMANDU SEC.

Students and teachers at Muumandu Secondary School in Machakos County are in a state of panic after one of the Form Four students tested positive for COVID-19.

Reports says that a team of medical staff from the County Department of Health and emergency services evacuated the male student from the institution to his parent’s home in Makueni County where he was put under home quarantine.

Patrick Mwangangi, the school’s principal addressed the TSC county Director via a confidential letter reporting the same.

Four teachers from the school who came into contact with the student have also been advised to proceed on a 14-day self-quarantine by the county health officers.

“Health personnel took samples from the said teachers for COVID-19 as well as all the students who shared dormitory and classroom with the patient,” read part of the letter.

This comes barely a day after Education CAS Zack Kinuthia said that the Ministry of Education has ruled out the mass closure of schools.

The Ministry has planned to deal with the Covid-19 cases on a case by case basis.

“Schools will not be closed based on the cases in Mombasa. If a school is found to be a threat, we close the school or the student is isolated and learning will continue.

“It would be a problem if all the schools reported cases but as the situation stands now, schools will not be closed, however, the ministry will keep observing the trends very closely,” Kinuthia declared.
