Teachers have been frustrated with the AON/MINET insurance medical cover for lack of quality, accessibility and affordability of health services provided.
Majority of the teachers now want termination process of insurance medical cover issued between AON MINET and Teachers Service Commission.
They main concerns raised by affected teachers include;
- Low capitation on outpatient services which include of doctors consultation, tests and drugs;
- Restrictions on the hospitals to visit of which some do not meet the threshold of a health facility.
- AON/MINET takes ages to make approvals, and sometimes last up to one month.
- Time of operation of some hospitals which is 8:00am to 5.oopm affects teachers when they fall sick at night.
- Some hospitals lack personnel and drugs.
- On dental services, AON MINET covers only tooth extraction, crucial services such as cleaning, refilling, root canalling, tooth replacement not being covered.
- Some services are unavailable in some parts of the country, forcing teachers to dig deeper into their pockets even after paying for medical insurance
Majority of the teachers now wants their employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to urgently address these critical concerns.
Teachers also want TSC to revoke the AON MINET medical cover and as alternative, get teachers the NHIF comprehensive cover, similar to that enjoyed by civil.
