RAILA ODINGA APPEALS TO THE PUBLISHERS TO RECONSIDER PRICING OF BOOKS

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has appealed to publishers and other stakeholders to reconsider the pricing of books to reduce the burden on parents as schools prepare for reopening.

“Books are important to nations and humanity as a whole. We educate through books and entertain while preserving our culture,” he said.

Speaking during a virtual conference on Thursday, Raila said learning in schools stopped for a long period due to Covid-19. He further said all stakeholders in the value chain should take note of the difficulty that parents go through and give fair pricing.

“We face the challenge of sufficient books on each learner. The all sharing of book might be the thing of the past,” he said.

Plans to reopen learning institutions is underway. All the stake holders are working hard to ensure everything is in place.

Teacher Service Commission (TSC) has directed teachers to report to their learning institutions by 28th September 2020.the teachers from next week will undergo COVID 19 handling training for two weeks. This has hinted schools are soon reopening
