7 BILLION STATE LOAN HAS NOT BEEN DISBURSED TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS: MP WALTER OWINO

Hon Walter Owino,  Awendo Member of Parliament has urged the government to show transparency on the criteria used in the disbursement of Sh7 billion state loan to private schools.

The MP called on the Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) officials to inquire from the Ministry to why they have not received the loan that was meant to aid in the preparation ahead of resumption of face-to-face learning.

“At this point we need to know the criteria used by the government in the distribution of funds. The private school directors must first make inquiries over the same before national leaders intervene if their efforts fail to bear fruits,” said Owino.

The government’s decision of giving private schools a hand to lean on came after several requests by the Kenya Private Schools Association to save them from the verge of collapsing due to the financial constraints brought about by the Covid-19.

According to KPSA Chair Kisii branch Mr. David Otema, the money has not been disbursed to their institutions hence urges the government to expedite the release of the funds to give them enough time for preparation ahead of the possible reopening.

“If the institutions are reopened before we receive the state loan, then definitely our schools will be left out of the programme and this will affect the academic activities of many learners across the country,” said Otema.
