TEACHERS TO OFFER HOME TUITION

Tuitions are illegal according to section 37 of the basic education act. Despite the illegality the president has urged teachers to offer tuition to students in small groups in estates and villages. He stated that the tuitions will keep the students busy amid the closure of schools due to COVID 19 pandemic.

The education CS George Magoha echoed on the same as he stated, ` as long as they are done in small groups, they are okay ’. However it wasn’t stated the number of students in a group. Apart from classroom education, the CS of education emphasized on the need of teaching of basic life skills to the students.

On the other hand, the chairman of the parents Association (NPA) Mr. Nicholas Maiyo took the suggestion positively. He stated that the parents are okay with the tuitions as far as the teachers come from within. Secondly teachers should maintain social distance and other containment during the teaching.

The closure of education institutions due to CORONA crisis has turned parents into untrained teachers .Furthermore, they have to track each and every movement of their children. The heavy burden is carried on their shoulders as they wait resumption of school in January.
